Despite The Pokémon Company holding a Pokémon Presents just a couple of days ago, this week has even more Pokémon news. The company revealed the next Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket expansion on Thursday, putting a spotlight on Generation 2’s pocket monsters.
The Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion will mark the debut of legendaries Lugia and Ho-Oh along with Johto starters Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile (the best starter trio; fight me). The trailer also showcases Red Gyarados, ex versions of Umbreon and Espeon, and trainer cards like Silver, Gen 2’s rival. And just as Gen 2 introduced baby Pokémon to the series, Wisdom of Sea and Sky will include Pichu and Cleffa cards.
Box mascots Lugia and Ho-Oh headline the booster packs, and over 200 new cards are joining the game. Wisdom of Sea and Sky continues the trend of a new Pokémon TCG Pocket expansion at the end of every month so far in 2025. June saw the Eevee Grove expansion, spotlighting the many eeveelutions of the fan-favorite ’mon.
Pokémon TCG Pocket will also receive new updates to its trading system. Players will be able to make wishlists for cards they want to trade for. The trade feature is receiving something of an overhaul; “Trade tokens will be discontinued, and players will no longer need to exchange cards to obtain the currency required for trading,” The Pokémon Company said in a news release. Shinedust will be needed to trade cards of higher rarities, and it will be obtained through in-game missions or via duplicate cards.
Wisdom of Sea and Sky joins Pokémon TCG Pocket on Tuesday, July 29 at 11 p.m. PDT / Wednesday, July 30 2 a.m. EDT.
