Get a Taste of Vice City with the Unofficial Grand Theft Auto Cookbook

It’s still unclear when Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released, but a cookbook based on the franchise launching in October might whet fans’ appetites. Written by Jarrett Melendez, who also penned cookbooks based on the Persona and Borderlands franchises, The Unofficial Grand Theft Auto Cookbook: Street Eats and Luxe Treats imagines what dishes might be served at the many restaurants and bars where players can commit crimes and cause mayhem.

Publisher Insight Editions gave us an early look and the chance to exclusively reveal a few recipes. The book spans all of the major cities in the GTA universe, using their real world inspirations to guide the culinary influences. The playful photography positions plates next to bullets, guns, stacks of cash, drugs, and even throwing stars while providing simple step-by-step instructions for entrees, drinks, and desserts.

If you’ve been left hungry after hunting for Cluck Norris figures in Cluckin’ Bell, you can prepare their signature chicken fingers and fries. The recipe uses a Dutch oven rather than a deep fryer, though you’ll want to plan this mission in advance since the chicken needs to soak in pickle brine for one to 12 hours before cooking before being coated with buttermilk and hot sauce. Adding vinegar to the fries gives them some extra savory kick.

For something sweet, head to Nutsaki on San Andreas Avenue in Los Santos for matcha cheesecake. You’ll need ceremonial grade matcha powder to get the most robust flavor, blending it into a paste and then using a handheld mixer to combine it with cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla. A graham cracker crust and a strawberry whipped cream provide layers of flavor. While it only takes about 30 minutes to make, you’ll need to let it chill for four hours before eating. The cake serves eight to 12, but if you don’t want to share, it will also last for up to five days.

You definitely shouldn’t drive after drinking the Pink Flamingo Cocktail you might find floating off the coast of Vice City at Benny’s Restaurant. It’s a very simple recipe that just involves combining frozen strawberries, coconut milk, lime juice, cream of coconut, and both white and coconut rum in a blender and then pouring the icy mix into two glasses, ideally garnished with pink flamingo straws.

An Unofficial Grand Theft Auto Cookbook: Street Eats and Luxe Treats arrives on Oct. 28 with a retail price of $27.99. You can pre-order it from your local bookstore or online.
