New Spider-Man action figures will come with Magic: The Gathering cards

Marvel’s Spider-Man will be joining the growing list of popular franchises to get their own Magic: The Gathering set, following the huge success of collections based on Final Fantasy and Lord of the Rings. Along with being able to add Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and other Spider-Man characters to their Magic decks, fans will also be able to pick up action figures based on the card art.

Hasbro offered Polygon an exclusive first look at the three of the collectibles, which will be released in the fall for $39.99 apiece. Each of the Marvel Legends Magic: The Gathering figures comes with a foil version of the card it’s based on.

Battle-Damaged Spider-Man includes an alternate unmasked head and hands that can be shown wall-crawling, activating web shooters, holding a web shield, or hanging from a web line. It’s based on the new Spectacular Spider-Man legendary creature card, which can gain flying or be sacrificed to protect your other creatures.

Mary Jane Watson dons the Iron Spider suit made by Tony Stark in a figure with articulated legs, faces with or without a mask, and web-shooting hands. The figure comes with the Iron Spider, Stark Upgrade card, a legendary artifact creature with Vigilance that can be tapped to add +1/+1 counters to all creatures and vehicles. It also allows players to use two of those counters and two colorless mana to draw a card.

J. Jonah Jameson’s son Colonel John Jameson, aka Man-Wolf, is armed with a bow and arrows and the sword Stargod. His figure includes a special version of the werewolf Ravager of the Fells from Magic’s 2012 set Dark Ascension.

Hasbro previously revealed an Agent Anti-Venom figure that comes with an Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer card. Made for mono-White decks, the legendary symbiote allows the player to return a creature from the battlefield when cast and turns damage that would be dealt to him into +1/+1 counters.

Wizards of the Coast is aiming to make it easier for curious Marvel fans to try Magic: The Gathering for the first time. When the Marvel’s Spider-Man set is released on Sept. 26, it will include a set of five Welcome Decks geared toward new players. Unlike last year’s beginner-focused Magic: The Gathering Foundations set, some of the cards in the Welcome Decks will not be legal in Standard tournaments, making them more akin to Magic’s Portal sets. Stores will also teach the rules of the game at Magic Academy events.

Pre-orders for the new action figures open on Hasbro Pulse at 1 p.m. EDT on Aug. 1. They will be released in the fall. The Marvel’s Spider-Man Magic: The Gathering set launches Sept. 26.
